Introduction: Government agencies and PSUs in India procure battery charger devices for storing electrical energy for various purposes. These battery charger procurements are established by tendering processes. Battery charger tenders are issued for procuring various types of battery charges like thyristor based battery, Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT), SMPS, and so on. These different types of chargers offer numerous benefits like charging various devices like jammers, mobile phones, and electrical vehicles.
Yearly analysis: Government agencies and PSUs in India procure battery charger tenders for different purposes. This article elaborates on the procurement of battery chargers during the last year March 2023 to March 2024. Around 197 government agencies advertised a total of 1950 battery charger tenders across various states in India. Among these 197 agencies, the Indian Army published around 490 tenders to procure these battery chargers. The Indian Army, South Central Railway, and Southern Railway were at the top ranking agencies. Of these total 1950 tenders, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh were the key buyer states.
State-wise analysis: While analyzing state-wise procurement, the top three states to publish the highest number of tenders were Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. The government agencies in Jammu and Kashmir issued various tenders like the Indian Army published a tender for procuring battery charger specifically made from Motorola and battery for jammer with specification of 12V 7AH. The Department of Defence in Jammu and Kashmir published a tender for procuring batter and battery charger with adapter. Railtel in Maharashtra issued a tender for supply, installation and commissioning of SMPS battery charger and VRLA battery set. Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Co LTD issued a tender for supply & ETC of 04 nos. float cum boost mode battery chargers with specification 24V-1350Ah-275Amp – 02 nos. And 220V-300Ah-75Amp – 02 nos. at HVDC terminal station, Chandrapur. The Indian Army in Uttar Pradesh issued a tender for procuring Elak automatic battery charger for charging two wheeler, Elak battery charger, fast battery, Elak battery tester.
Thyristor battery charger: Government agencies procure thyristor based battery chargers to convert high current and voltage to which is suitable for charging devices. Thyristor battery charger tenders were procured by various government agencies like Railways, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Education sector, and India Army. For example, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) advertised a tender for supply, erection and commissioning of 2 no’s 220V DC, 70A FCBC thyristor based battery charger as main and standby for CHS-VII switch gear. Indian army in Andhra Pradesh advertised a tender for procuring thyristor based battery chargers and dischargers 3 quantities in each item.
Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) battery charger: Around 84 IGBT battery charger tenders were issued by various government agencies in India. For instance, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited in Maharashtra published a tender for supply, installation and commissioning of IGBT stabilizers GMO South Zone. PWD in Himachal Pradesh issued a tender for providing UPS 40KVA IGBT basis instead of faulty UPS adjusted in 6th floor for 7 nos. OT of hospital in Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Govt. medical college and hospital Nerchowk District Mandi. Similarly, the Department of Heavy Industry in Uttarakhand issued a tender for supply of 6.0 KVA based online UPS without batteries as per specifications.
Procurement in railways: Around 560 tenders were published by the railway department across various states in India. The railway department procure various battery chargers like starter battery, pole mounted battery charger, and emergency feed battery charger. For instance, the South Central Railways in Telangana issued a tender for 4.5 KW under slung constant voltage, regulated cum emergency battery charger for LHB coaches. Central Railways in Maharashtra published a tender for 3 phase 415 volts battery charger. West Central Railways in Madhya Pradesh published a tender for provision of isolation switches for starting batteries in power cars.
National Thermal Power Corporation Limited: A significant number of tenders were published by the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited across various states in India. National Thermal Power Corporation Limited in Andhra Pradesh published a tender for AMC for chloride or caldyne make battery chargers at NTPC Kahalgaon. Similarly, National Thermal Power Corporation Limited in Delhi advertised a tender for biennial maintenance rate contract for M/s Dubas make battery chargers. National Thermal Power Corporation Limited in Madhya Pradesh published a tender for supply, erection, and commissioning of 220V DC battery charges at CHP of NTPC Farakka.
Department of Defence: Around 90 tenders were published by the Department of Defence for procuring battery chargers in India. For instance, the Department of Defence in Telangana issued a tender for battery charger/discharge test station with in-built measurement tools. The Department of Defence Production in Karnataka published a tender for procuring a low capacity battery charger. Whereas in West Bengal advertised a tender for 110V/10A float charger & 10A float cum boost charger panel.
Estimation value: Though estimation cost is not mentioned in most of the tenders, there were few tenders where the estimation value was specified. Estimation value varies from 1 lakh to 5 crores. For instance, Military Engineer Services in Karnataka issued a tender for supply of a mastervolt battery charger estimated at 1.51 Lakh. Whereas Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. in Uttar Pradesh issued a tender with an estimation value of 5.16 Crore for supply and complete installation of Smart Grid Bi directional Sensors sets (with all required accessories and parts), Computers, Battery with charger, HT and LT Fault Locator Machine (Van mounted) under the jurisdiction of SE, EUDC, Mathura.
Live analysis:
As of 24th March 2024, there are 66 live tenders for battery chargers across various states in India. Among these total live tenders Uttar Pradesh ranks top with 18 tenders. Other states such as Tamil Nadu has 11 tenders, Karnataka has 8 tenders, Andhra Pradesh has 8 tenders, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have 7 tenders each, and Gujarat has 6 tenders.
Conclusion: As the tender analysis given above shows the significant demand for battery chargers across various states in India. Government agencies like railways, education, electricity, healthcare, and the Indian army procure different types of battery charges for various purposes.
